Series 1: Lively Life Cycles
Pre K - 1st Grade
Are your students curious about how animals grow and change? Discovery Creek offers two programs that allow students to study how animals grow and change in their life cycles. Eggs to Legs lets students examine the way that mammals and birds grow and change. Then they compare those changes to the tremendous changes that amphibians experience. At Six-legged Sensations, Groovy Growers! engages your students in an insect investigation as they learn about the amazing changes these critters undergo during metamorphosis.

Want to learn more about how animals meet their basic needs of food, shelter, and protection? Take your students through this three part series of programs! At Animal Architects, your students will find out how some animals make or build their shelters or homes. Then, Snow Place like Home will let your students discover what animals do to survive in the winter when food is scarce and the weather is cold. Your students will complete these hands-on, minds-on programs with a greater understanding of how animals are able to survive in their environment.

Series 3: Forest Features*
Pre K - 6th Grade
Your students will get friendly with forests in this three-program series! First, travel Out on a Limb, as your students journey from treetop to root tip in an exploration of trees and the temperate forest environment. Next, at Soil Sleuths, students will take a closer look at what happens right under their feet on the forest floor as they answer the age-old question: "Where do all the leaves go after they fall?" Finally, students will put their new forest knowledge to the test as they compare the forests of the Washington, DC area to tropical rainforests at Tropical Treehouse.

Series 4: Insect Inspection*
Pre K - 6th Grade
Invigorate your students with this three-program series on insects. Begin with an investigation into what makes an insect an insect at Insects Head-to-Toe (Pre K - 1st) or Bug Basics (2nd - 6th). Then investigate many of the fantastic ways that insects are adapted to survive in Here, There, and Everywhere (Pre K - 1st) or Incredible Insects (2nd- 6th). Finally, learn about the magic of metamorphosis with a study of insect life cycles at Groovy Growers! (Pre K- 1st) or Terrific Transformations (2nd- 6th). Get your class in-step with insects.

Your students will become familiar with different creatures and classifications as they participate in two hands-on programs. Students will find out what makes an insect an insect at Bug Basics in the Six-legged Sensations exhibition. They will become true herpetologists as they study the fascinating animals that we call herps (reptiles and amphibians) at Scales and Trails. At the conclusion of these two programs, students will understand how and why humans classify living creatures.

Series 6: Habitat Helpers
2nd - 6th Grade
Discovery Creek offers two programs examine the impact humans have on the earth. At Tropical Treehouse students learn about the tropical rainforest and the ways that human behavior affects the rainforest, both in the past and the future. At Creek Critters, students explore human impact closer to home as they learn about the Chesapeake Bay watershed and the ways people can have both positive and negatives influences on its health. Students will leave both programs with a sense of environmental stewardship and an understanding that they, too, play a role in protecting earth's diverse ecosystems.
